Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains (AIC) is an American alternative metal band from Seattle, a city in the state of Washington. Formed in 1987 by guitarist and singer Jerry Cantrell and singer Layne Staley, it is one of the most notable grunge bands, being part of the Big Four of Seattle alongside Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Their musical style includes dark and heavy rhythms, but is very melodic and is also characterized by a variety of sounds, which makes it difficult to classify the band exactly. The band is generally categorized as grunge, but draws on the heavy metal of the 1970s, containing elements from the heavy riffs of Black Sabbath and melodic hard rock elements close to the musical style of Led Zeppelin, interwoven with softer and cleaner compositions in an acoustic style.
