WebsiteThe band was founded in 1976 in Barnsley (England) by singer Peter Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn, both coming from the band Coast. They were very quickly joined by bassist Steve Dawson, guitarist Graham Oliver (ex-Sob) and drummer Peter Gill. This line-up was not yet called Saxon but Son Of The Bitch. The band began to tour the bars and clubs of the north of England and gradually gained a local renown. This was their way of life: concerts and parties, alcohol. They used an old English bus to travel around the pubs. It was in 1978 that Son Of The Bitch became Saxon at the impetus of guitarist Graham Oliver, although he is the author of Son Of A Bitch. Apparently, it was a close friend of Biff and Paul who gave them the idea of Saxon, which they valiantly accepted.
