The genesis of Clarity remains shrouded in mystery. The first cries of life burst forth in 1996, under the name Decoy. Founded by Deimos and Mikko, Decoy marked the formation of Clarity, playing traditional 80s heavy metal, situated somewhere between Iron Maiden and Kiss. In late 1997, Sami arrived on keyboards, marking a major musical turning point. Decoy abandoned its Maidenisms and set out to conquer the world with a more progressive and experimental approach to metallic music. Decoy's first and last demo CD, "Ready at Last", was released in January 1998, offering a glimpse of what the band would become. Although Sami came to stay, he does not play on the demo. Deimos and Mikko did it all themselves.
