WebsiteKataklysm is a Quebec death metal band formed in 1992. Once a pioneer of Quebec extreme music with grindcore (Napalm Death) and death metal (Cannibal Corpse, Possessed) influences, Kataklysm became over time more melodic and accessible, while remaining an extreme metal band. This change of musical direction is due in part to the dismissal of singer Sylvain Houde, even though the latter did not write music. Subsequently, Kataklysm took a turn toward a new sound that is unique to them but whose elements were already present from the beginning and referred to by the label "Northern Hyperblast" on their third album Victims of this Fallen World. Their unique sound combining melody and blast beats took further shape on their fourth and fifth albums.

Kataklysm's mascot, this sort of evil gargoyle, can be seen since the album In The Arms Of Devastation. So still very recent compared to the band's seniority.
