Formed in 1990 by guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament, Pearl Jam is one of the most popular bands of the grunge movement, thus forming alongside Soundgarden, Nirvana and Alice in Chains the Big Four of Seattle. In 2005, readers of USA Today voted Pearl Jam "best American rock band". Besides their stage commitment, the Seattle quintet became noted for its anti-Bush political and humanitarian commitment.
