Gargoyle

Gargoyle was an obscure heavy metal band from Portland, Oregon. Gargoyle, whose strong point was a powerful yet melodic fantasy metal style in the vein of Ronnie James Dio, Iron Maiden, Queensryche and Judas Priest, was formed around 1982. That year, guitarist Kevin Sanders and drummer David Kendall began working together, and in 1984 bassist Doug Smith joined the band. After spending a few years searching for a permanent singer, Gargoyle hired Tim Lachmann in 1986. Gargoyle landed a recording contract in 1987, when they sent a demo to New Renaissance, a small Los Angeles-based metal label founded by Hellion.
