WebsiteSlayer is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California, by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Slayer is known for being one of the leading bands of the thrash metal movement, with the 1986 release of Reign in Blood, which was named "the best album of all time along with Metallica's Master of Puppets". The band forms the "Big Four" of thrash metal bands, with Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica. The band has been active for more than 30 years after its creation. Slayer is known for its particular musical style, including tremolo picking, solos, double bass drum and screamed vocals. The band's songs and its album covers, based on subjects such as serial killers, Satanism, and religion, have led to censorship, lawsuits and strong criticism from religious groups and the public.

Mascots
Ghost Of War
While the Baphogoat from Slayer's first album, Show No Mercy, has become an icon, the band's true mascot is the Ghost Of War – a screaming demonic skull wearing a World War II helmet. Frightening, emblematic and adaptable, the Ghost represents the heart of Slayer's dark and bloody message: that humanity and the horrors we create are the true devil of this world.
