W.A.S.P.

W.A.S.P. is an American metal band formed in 1982. The band had its heyday in the '80s. W.A.S.P. became known for its controversial lyrics and its shocking concerts in the vein of Alice Cooper. It was in fact the target of numerous attacks from the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) led by Tipper Gore. W.A.S.P. immortalized its fight against this pressure group in the song "Harder, Faster" from the album Live ... In The Raw. There has been an enormous amount of speculation about the band's name. Some think that WASP stands for "We Are So Perfect" or even "We Are So Powerful". Other rumors went so far as to claim that this acronym means "We Are Satan's People" or "We Are Satan's Preachers". Another meaning could be "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant". Which would be rather ironic given the title "Fuck like a beast".
