Marillion

Marillion is a British neo-prog band, spearhead of the revival of "progressive rock", born in 1978 under the name Silmarillion — a name borrowed from a novel by J. R. R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings. The name was quickly shortened to Marillion, while the band gradually moved away from any "folkloric" reference (to the Tolkien imaginary, to 1970s progressive rock) to develop its own identity, characterized by convoluted lyrics, the voice and stage presence of singer Fish, then of his successor Steve Hogarth, and created the so-called "neo-progressive rock" style along with other bands such as Pallas. Marillion's success, at first confined to the United Kingdom, spread to the whole of Europe, conquered in 1985 by the single Kayleigh from the album Misplaced Childhood, a concept album of autobiographical character.
