Ugly Kid Joe

The band is a quintet, made up of singer Whitfield Crane and his friend the guitarist Klaus Eichstadt. The first drummer Mark Davis, the second guitarist Roger Lahr, and the bassist Cordell Crockett only joined the band from 1991. While at the start the band was called Overdrive, the name Ugly Kid Joe is a parodic nod to the glam metal band Pretty Boy Floyd with whom they were supposed to play. The mocking and parodic style is the band's spearhead, and their main theme. Their lyrics are a self-criticism of US consumer society in general, in the manner of The Simpsons. Ugly Kid Joe even appears on the soundtrack of the film Wayne's World.
