Tesla

Tesla is an American hard rock band founded in 1984 in Sacramento. The band's name was City Kidd but it was changed during the recording of the first album to Tesla in tribute to the Serbian engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). Tesla's music fit well with the explosive sound of the glam metal bands of the 80s, but their sound was bluesier and the lyrics dealt with things other than girls, alcohol and violence. What set them even further apart from their glam metal contemporaries were their T-shirts and jeans, in contrast to an era that favoured leather clothing and make-up. The band released 6 albums, the last being Forever More (2008), as well as a double covers album, Real To Reel, and a fair number of compilations and live records.
