WebsiteFreddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Stone Town, in the Protectorate of Zanzibar, and died on November 24, 1991, at the age of 45 in London) is a British songwriter, singer and musician, who established his international reputation as the singer of the rock band Queen. With a great vocal range and a good command of some opera techniques, he remains, among the greatest singers of the 20th century, one of the most popular and technically accomplished. With Queen, he composed most of his greatest hits, including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Visibly ill and weakened for several months, Freddie Mercury died of complications from pneumonia on November 24, 1991, after declaring, the day before, that he was HIV-positive.
