WebsiteFormed by guitarist Vanderhoof in San Francisco in the 80s. Although he was never part of the band, Lars Ulrich (Metallica) played with them at a few rehearsals. Metal Church opened for Metallica's "Master of Puppets" tour in '87. After their second album, David Wayne was replaced by Mike Howe (ex-Heretic). But the band's popularity was declining. Metal Church would split up in '93 with the departure of Kurdt. In '98, the band reformed with the return of Vanderhoof and Wayne, followed by the recording of the album Masterpiece. But Wayne left again, and he would be replaced by Munroe. David would die on 10/05/05 at the age of 47 in a road accident. The band's musical direction would take a heavier turn, all the more so on their latest album "A Light in the Dark" with the arrival on drums of Jeff Plate (Savatage).
