WebsiteMors Principium Est (from Latin "death is only the beginning") is a Finnish melodic death band formed in 1999. Mors Principium Est (MPE) was born in 1999 in Pori, Finland, at the initiative of Jori Haukio (vocals/guitar), Jarkko Kokko (guitar) and Toni Nummelin (keyboards); Mikko Sipola (drums) joined them shortly after. In 2000, Jori decided to stop singing to concentrate on his guitar playing, and Ville Viljanen then became the band's new singer. The first demo was recorded with this line-up, and thus without a bass line. Listenable Records, a French label, showed interest, but wanted the presence of a full-time bassist. Teemu Heinola then joined the band. Two more demos came out in 2001 and 2002, following which Listenable signed the band for three albums.
