Skálmöld

Skálmöld is an Icelandic viking and folk metal band from Reykjavik. The band's name, which means Age of the Sword, is a reference to the age of the Sturlungar (Sturlungaöld), a period of internal strife in Iceland that lasted about forty years in the 13th century. Childhood friends Snæjbjörn Ragnarsson and Björgvin Sigurdðsson, used to playing together in numerous bands (including some death metal and punk), decided in August 2009 to create a new band called Skálmöld. They were joined by Baldur Ragnarsson, Þráinn Árni Baldvinsson, Gunnar Ben, and Jón Geir Jóhannsson who are also active on the Icelandic music scene.
