Def Leppard

Def Leppard is a British glam rock band originating from Sheffield, England, that was particularly popular in the 1980s. The band was associated with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The band Atomic Mass was born from the duo of guitarist friends Pete Willis and Rick Savage, joined by drummer Tony Kenning in 1977, who studied at the same Sheffield high school. Pete Willis met a certain Joe Elliott on a bus, and he was immediately auditioned on vocals. He became the band's regular singer, but proposed as a new name: Deaf Leopard. It was finally the contracted form Def Leppard that was adopted. In January 1978 the band hired Steve Clark as second guitarist. The band has today sold 65 million albums worldwide.
