WebsiteDarkthrone is one of the first Norwegian black metal bands. It consists of Fenriz on drums and vocals, and Nocturno Culto on guitars, bass and vocals. The band formed in 1986 in Kolbotn under the name Black Death. It was then made up of Fenriz (drums), Nocturno Culto (vocals, guitar), Anders (bass) and Zephyrous (guitar). The line-up started out as a death metal band with several demos in the 1980s and the album Soulside Journey in 1991. Then came the black metal turn, with the influence of Euronymous (Mayhem), who made them understand the necessity of black metal, as being more a way of life than merely a kind of music.
