WebsiteSavatage is a progressive heavy metal band founded in 1979 in Florida, in the United States, by the brothers Jon and Criss Oliva. After a first album, Sirens (1983), the band signed with Atlantic Records and recorded two albums, Power of the Night 1985 and Fight for the Rock 1986, which met with mixed success. It was with the meeting of producer Paul O'Neil that the band's style evolved toward more progressive music and that Savatage found success. Hall of the Mountain King 1987 was followed by a long American tour with Ronnie James Dio and Megadeth. In 1993, just as the band had released the album Edge of Thorns, guitarist Criss Oliva died in a traffic accident. His brother decided to continue the adventure with Alex Skolnick then Al Pitrelli on guitar. Jon Oliva created the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
