Macbeth

One of the first heavy metal bands of the former German Democratic Republic. From 1987 to 1989, the band was known under the name Caiman, after Macbeth was banned by the East German authorities following a concert monitored by the police and the Stasi in the overcrowded Stadtgarten of Erfurt, in Thuringia. Macbeth/Caiman split for the first time in 1989 after the suicide of their singer Wittenburg. A first comeback in 1993 ended with the death of their drummer. The band reunited for the second time in 2002. Not to be confused with the power metal band Macbeth from Ennepetal or Macbeth from Ingolstadt.
