Wendy O. Williams

Wendy O. Williams (born May 28, 1949 in Webster, New York, and died April 6, 1998 in Storrs, Connecticut), whose real name was Wendy Orlean Williams, was the singer of the American punk band the Plasmatics. She also had a solo career. Nearly naked during her live performances, she destroyed equipment with a chainsaw. Nicknamed "The Queen of Shock Rock," W.O.W. was considered the most controversial and radical singer of her time. She often wore a mohawk. In 1985, at the height of her popularity as a solo artist, W.O.W. was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
