WebsiteThe band was formed in 1998 by Chris Bay and Dan Zimmermann. They first recorded a six-song demo with Charlie Bauerfeind as producer (who presented the tape to several record labels). The band was then completed by Ilker Ersin on bass and Sascha Gerstner on guitar. Ilker and Chris had played in the same band (Moon'Doc) for a few years. The first album, titled Stairway to Fairyland, was released shortly before 1999, and on May 25, 1999, Freedom Call made its first concert appearance in France during the tour of the bands Angra and Edguy. At the end of August, Freedom Call recorded the 5-track Mini LP of the album Taragon, with new songs, such as "Dancing with tears in my eyes", a cover of the band Ultravox.
