WebsiteParadise Lost is a British gothic metal band originating from Yorkshire, founded in 1988. Originally playing a death-tinged doom metal, they managed to evolve their style over the course of the albums. Paradise Lost is one of the three great bands that popularized doom metal/death metal (the other two being Anathema and My Dying Bride). The band is almost unknown in its own country but is extremely popular in the rest of Europe, notably in Greece and Germany. Often credited with having been one of the pioneers of gothic metal, the band has regularly astonished critics and fans with its taste for innovation and experimentation, a willingness to work with producers from other musical backgrounds and a refusal to repeat itself from one album to the next. This approach, though criticized, allowed them to win over new fans as time went on.
