WebsiteIron Maiden is a British heavy metal band formed in December 1975 in London by bassist Steve Harris and very quickly joined by Dave Murray. They were among the pioneers of what was called the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Over the course of its history, Iron Maiden has achieved one of the greatest commercial successes in heavy metal, selling more than 100 million albums. Their longevity, their powerful and melodic compositions, and the diversity of their discography have made them one of the flagship bands of the heavy metal scene. The band's name refers to a medieval instrument of torture, the iron maiden. Their mascot, Eddie, sprang from the imagination of illustrator Derek Riggs. The band was frequently accused of being satanist, notably because of the fantastical imagery conveyed and their references to biblical writings.

Eddie the head
Eddie is the mascot of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He appears on most of the band's record covers as well as at their concerts. He is nicknamed «Eddie the 'ead» («Eddie the head») because, in the beginning, only his head was displayed on stage. Created by the British illustrator Derek Riggs, he has also been depicted by Melvyn Grant.
