Pantera

Pantera is an American metal band founded by the Abbott brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, in Arlington, Texas, in 1981. Although at the outset the band showed certain characteristics related to glam metal, its music is above all heavy metal. However, from 1990 onwards, the band took a radical turn towards groove metal, a new style derived from thrash metal. The journalist Jason Birchmeier of Allmusic defined Pantera as being "one of the best metal bands of the 1990s". They ranked 20th in the VH1 chart of the "100 greatest hard rock bands", and are in 5th place in the ranking of the "10 best heavy metal bands of all time". Pantera split up in 2003. The following year, Dimebag Darrell was murdered on stage during a concert with Damageplan.
