WebsiteMegadeth is an American thrash metal band formed in 1983 in Los Angeles, California by Dave Mustaine. They are recognized as one of the four most influential thrash metal bands, along with Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer. The band broke up in 2002 due to a severe nerve injury to guitarist Mustaine's left arm, but after a great deal of rehabilitation for him, the band was able to reform in 2004. Their mascot is Vic Rattlehead, appearing on all of the band's album covers. It is estimated today that the band has sold nearly 50 million albums worldwide. Shortly after being removed from the lead guitarist position in the band Metallica in 1983, due to conflicts and his problems related to alcohol and drug abuse, Dave Mustaine decided to found the band Megadeth.
