Triumph is a power trio, known by the nickname of "poor man's Rush." The band's musical style is hard rock and heavy metal, but the band does not wish to be categorized in any of these genres. Moore describes Triumph as a mix between Emerson, Lake and Palmer and The Who. Guitarist Emmett's composition style leans towards progressive rock with some elements of classical music; every Triumph album contains a classical guitar piece. Triumph's style is not unanimously acclaimed among the specialized press, as with most progressive rock and heavy metal bands. The critics of Rolling Stone magazine consider them a "faceless band."
