Queen

Queen is a British rock band, formed in 1970 in London by Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor, the latter two coming from the band Smile. The following year, bassist John Deacon came to complete the line-up. The British band that has enjoyed the greatest commercial success over the past thirty years, Queen sold more than 300 million albums internationally as of 2009, including 32.5 million in the USA. An opinion poll commissioned in Great Britain by BBC Two and published in 2007 named Queen the "best British band of all time", ahead of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Queen is also one of the pioneers of the music video, having successfully exploited this mode of communication as early as 1975. Queen has retained, despite the death of its leader Freddie Mercury in 1991, many admirers around the world.
