Glenn Hughes, born August 21, 1951 in Cannock in the county of Staffordshire, is a British bassist and singer. He first became known within the band Trapeze and then above all as a member of Deep Purple, which he joined in September 1973 as part of Mark III, then in Mark IV, succeeding Roger Glover on bass, who ultimately took his place back for the 1984 reunion tour. Hughes was then briefly the singer of Black Sabbath, succeeding Ian Gillan, former singer of Deep Purple, then in 1985 took part as bassist in Gary Moore's album Run For Cover, alternating with Phil Lynott. His solo career did not resume until 15 years later, in the early 2000s.
