Eternal Tears of Sorrow (abbreviated EToS) is a melodic death band with gothic leanings created in 1994 in the town of Pudasjärvi, Finland. Altti Veteläinen and Jarmo Puolakanaho began playing music in 1988. Their first piece, a simplified version of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water", gave them the inspiration to write new compositions in various styles. Altti and Jarmo first formed Andromeda, in spring 1992. In autumn, Mikko Komulainen (voice), Petri Sankala (drums) and Olli-Pekka Törrö (guitar) join the project. The month of November marks the end of Andromeda. It is in 1994, on the occasion of the release of a new demo, that the band would change its name to "Eternal Tears of Sorrow".
