Turisas

Turisas is a Finnish folk metal and power metal band falling into the category of viking metal, evoking epic feelings and themes drawn from Nordic folklore. It takes its name from an ancient Finnish god of war. It was founded in 1997 by Mathias Nygård and Jussi Wickström. The band Turisas combines power metal and elements of black metal with Finnish folk music. The track titled Battle Metal gave birth to the term "battle metal" used as a description of folk metal and power metal; used mainly by Metal Hammer and its readers. There are similarities in their music with that of the bands Amon Amarth and Finntroll, who are also categorized in viking metal.
