Cozy Powell

On April 5, 1998, Cozy Powell got behind the wheel of his black Saab 9000 Turbo to return to his home in Lambourn and drove at high speed onto the M4 motorway while weather conditions were very bad. In driving rain, as he was talking on his mobile phone with his partner Sharon Reeve, he suddenly lost control of his vehicle, which struck the central concrete median and began a series of rolls, finally leaving the roadway and coming to rest on its roof, on the grass of the verge. Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, Cozy Powell did not regain consciousness in the ambulance that was taking him to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
