Dead

In 1991, Dead committed suicide, leaving behind only a single recording with Mayhem, Live in Leipzig, his share of macabre anecdotes as well as a note illustrating his dark humor: "Excuse all the blood." The members of the band reportedly found Yngve at his home, his wrists slit and a bullet in his head. After photographing him, rumor has it that they carried out rituals inspired by a Viking ceremony and consumed fragments of his brain, as well as fashioning necklaces from pieces of his skull. Euronymous let these rumors circulate to serve the band's image, even adding that he wanted to keep one of Dead's arms but that it would have been difficult to explain to the police. The photograph of Dead's corpse appears on the cover of the bootleg Dawn of the Black Hearts.
