Euronymous

Øystein Aarseth was murdered on the night of August 10, 1993 by his former friend Varg Vikernes. He stabbed him 23 times in the chest, in the back and in the neck. There is much speculation as to the motive for the murder, but no theory even today appears to be accurate: the deterioration of the friendship between Vikernes and Aarseth (which reportedly turned into hatred), a payment dispute on Aarseth's part for the Burzum albums, Vikernes's jealousy of Aarseth, who was then the leader of the movement. Vikernes, for his part, claims that he was initially the victim and that it was merely an act of self-defense in the face of Euronymous's threat with a rifle.
