The cause of Kurt Cobain's death was officially ruled a suicide. However, several theories have been put forward according to which it was actually a murder. The main proponent of the conspiracy theory is Tom Grant, the private detective hired by Courtney to find her husband after he disappeared from the rehab center. Grant was still employed by her when the body was found. According to him, the cause of death is rather a homicide.
