Akercocke is a schizophrenic band, each of whose albums can be regarded as a new therapy session. The doctors have given up: listening to a single track by this band would be enough to make the most deranged of psychopaths look like a true saint. Akercocke blends styles - from black to death, from jazz to electro - creates unhealthy yet hypnotic atmospheres, and hides away without ever revealing its true identity. Akercocke charms, bewitches and then comes to torture us whenever the urge takes it. Akercocke is made up of madmen whose pathologies give rise to marvels. It is clear that next to these Englishmen, Dr Jekyll seems a very kindly character.
