Atrophy

Atrophy is a thrash metal band formed in Tucson (Arizona) by Chris Lykins, James Gulotta, and Brian Zimmerman. At first, they were called Heresy but, when the line-up was complete, in 1986, they changed their name. The band recorded two demos the following year, which were spotted by the major label Roadrunner Records, which saw great potential in them. They then released their first album in 1988: Socialized Hate. An aggressive, heavy and committed album. Then they returned to the studio two years later to record Violent by Nature, an album where the melodic side is much more developed, giving a less aggressive result. Following the tour for this second opus, guitarist Chris Lykins left the band. They then lost the confidence of Roadrunner and split up in 1991.
