Singer Edgar Riley, guitarist Bobby Barth, bassist Mike Turpin and drummer Teddy Mueller created the band Axe in 1979, when the band added a second guitarist, Michael Osborne. Axe released its self-titled debut album in 1979 after signing to the major label MCA Records thanks to talent agent Lou Manganiello Jr. It attracted the interest of the specialized rock press. Bobby Barth had previously been encouraged by his father to play guitar in 1965. After the release of the single Living on the Edge from Axe, the band switched labels to Atco in 1982 for the release of a third album, Offering, which includes the anthem Rock n' Roll Party in the Streets and a cover of the song I Got the Fire by Montrose.
