Billy Idol

William Broad is two years old when, together with his parents and his sister Jane, he arrives in the United States to live the American dream there; the family moves to Long Island (New York). But they go back to the United Kingdom after four years. Billy will nevertheless keep a fond memory of American cars and music. Still a high-school student, he emerges on the music scene with his first band, The Rockettes. His nickname "Idol", which would bring him success, comes from one of his teachers who called him lazy ("Idle" in English, which is pronounced like "idol"); he added an "o" so that it would be pronounced better.
