John Sykes founded his own band Blue Murder in 1989. He recorded a demo with Ray Gillen on vocals, Tony Franklin on bass and Cozy Powell on drums. Ray Gillen quickly left the band. He was soon followed by Cozy Powell, replaced by Carmine Appice. A first album was released in 1989, with John Sykes on vocals, then a second, Nothin' But Trouble, in 1993. In the meantime, the band's line-up had changed. Around John Sykes, Marco Mendoza and Tommy O'Steen respectively took the places of bassist and drummer. Renamed Sykes, this formation has released several albums since 1995.
