Burzum

Burzum is a solo black metal musical project created in 1991 in Bergen, Norway, by Varg Vikernes. It is a prominent band from the early days of the Norwegian black metal scene. Varg Vikernes handles all the instruments, since he considers that having "more than one person in an artistic project is always a compromise". However, a few guests also played on some of the early compositions. After recording 4 Burzum albums, Varg Vikernes was sentenced in 1994 to 21 years in prison for the murder of Øystein Aarseth (also known as Euronymous), guitarist of the black metal band Mayhem, and for the arson of 4 churches. In prison, Burzum recorded dark ambient albums for lack of access to instruments suitable for metal. He was released on 24 May 2009.
