Cathedral

The band was founded in 1989 by Lee Dorrian, former singer of the band Napalm Death, Garry Jennings from the band Acid Reign, and by Mark Griffiths, who was a roadie for the band Carcass. Lee Dorrian had just left Napalm Death at the time, because he did not appreciate the Death metal turn the band was taking. His desire to found Cathedral came when he met Garry Jennings and Mark Griffiths and they talked about their shared taste for Doom metal bands. That same year, the band released the demo In Memoriam, mainly oriented towards Doom metal, with a very slow and very heavy sound. The band would later sign a contract with the label Earache Records.
