Defiled

Defiled form a world apart. Active since 1992, in the full golden age of death metal, these Tokyo legends are neither relics of the past nor guardians of the old school. They do not follow Western traditions. They cannot be reduced to symbols like kimonos or samurai. Like the Japanese giant salamander, they continue to evolve on the fringes of passing fashions. Yusuke Sumita, founding member and guitarist, and his band of warriors remain masters of the genre, but their ninth album, due out soon, presents only a faint echo of death metal's past or present.
