Diving For Pearls hails from Boston, Massachusetts and was formed by Danny Malone (vocals, guitar) and Jack Moran (keyboards), both former members of the local band The Trademarks. After battling on the Boston scene for a few years, Malone and Moran moved to New York where they were eventually joined by Yul Vazquez (guitar, vocals), formerly with Urgent, and Peter Clemente (drums), who had played with Michael Monroe's New York band Secret Chiefs, and appeared on Monroe's first solo album in 1987, Nights Are So Long. Vazquez and Clemente had also both been part of Jean Beauvoir's touring band Drums Along the Mohawk. David Weeks (bass), originally from Los Angeles, completed the Diving for Pearls lineup.
