WebsiteDragonForce formed in 1999, upon the break-up of the black metal band Demoniac. First known under the name DragonHeart, the band would eventually change its name in 2003 to avoid any confusion with a Brazilian band of the same name. After most of Demoniac's members left, only Sam Totman and Herman Li remained. Meeting ZP Theart in London in September 1999, they reformed the band with members from different backgrounds: Hong Kong (Herman Li), Ukraine (keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov), New Zealand (Sam Totman) and France (their bassist Frédéric Leclercq). Quickly realizing the impact the internet could have, they posted several demos on their site and were rewarded with 500,000 downloads and the interest that Sanctuary/Noise Records showed in them at the time.
