Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1981 in San Francisco, in the United States, by Kirk Hammett, Tom Hunting, Paul Baloff and Gary Holt. In 1983, Kirk Hammett left the band to join Metallica and was replaced by Rick Hunolt; Rob McKillop was recruited as bassist. The band released Bonded by Blood in 1985, and the album was a great success, with a California thrash edge more brutal than Metallica. After this first opus, Paul Baloff left the band and was replaced by Steve «Zetro» Souza. Following Pleasure of the Flesh in 1987, the band released the essential Fabulous Disaster, a landmark thrash metal album. This album marked the beginning of the decline for Exodus, with albums that went unnoticed in the early '90s. Exodus split up in 1992 after Force of Habit and reformed in 1996 with Jack Gibson on bass.
