In 1980, in Atlanta, Dan Baird (vocals, guitar) founded, with Rick Richards (lead guitar), Keith Christopher and David Michaelson (drums), the band Keith and the Satellites. The band played in Atlanta's bars and often crossed paths with other bands such as The Brains and The Hell Hounds. In 1982, the rhythm section changed, Dave Hewitt (bass, ex-Babe Ruth) and Randy Lelay joined the two guitarists, the band became The Georgia Satellites and signed with the same management company as the country rock band, Jason and the Scorchers. The band recorded a six-track demo, among which already featured Keep Your Hands To Yourself, the band's future major hit, produced by Jeff Glixman (producer of Kansas and Gary Moore among others).
