Formed in 2002, the band plays songs inspired by nature, the history of the province of Gelderland, and Germanic mythology. All their lyrics are written and sung in their native language, Dutch. The name Heidevolk can be translated into English as "people of the heathland", but it also alludes to the heiden (with an n), that is to say the pagans.
