In Flames

In Flames was born in 1990 from the coming together of three members of Ceremonial Oath: Jesper Strömblad, Johan Larsson and Glenn Ljungström. Jesper formed the band with the aim of writing melodic songs, something he could not afford to do within Ceremonial Oath. He officially left Ceremonial Oath in 1993 due to musical differences, and then devoted himself entirely to In Flames. He recruited Glenn Ljungström on guitar and Johan Larsson on bass, thus forming In Flames' first official line-up. They recorded a short demo, which was sent to several labels. Wrong Again Records spotted them, and it was in 1993 that the band self-produced its first album Lunar Strain, on that label. Having no permanent singer, Jesper asked Mikael Stanne (future member of Dark Tranquillity) to sing for the studio sessions.
