Joe Satriani

Joe Satriani, nicknamed "Satch", is an American guitarist and guitar hero born on 15 July 1956 in Westbury, New York State, influenced by Jimi Hendrix. Joseph Satriani grew up on Long Island and took an interest in music very early on, taking drum lessons from the age of eight. He also began playing on his older sister's guitar, who was trying to play folk rock without much diligence, but he only seriously took up the instrument at the age of fourteen when he learned of the death of Jimi Hendrix on 18 September 1970, a passing that marked him strongly. Satriani's progress was rapid and he himself began giving lessons in 1971, Steve Vai being one of his first students. He studied music theory, took piano and harmony lessons with Lennie Tristano in 1974, and then traveled around the world to perfect his technique.
