WebsiteKayak is a Dutch progressive rock band, originally from Hilversum. It was formed and led by keyboardist Ton Scherpenzeel, and during the 1970s was a leading figure of Eurock, the progressive rock of continental Europe. Several albums representative of this style are owed to them: See See the Sun, Kayak II, Royal Bed Bouncer and The Last Encore, not to mention the concept album Merlin, released in 1981 after a more pop-oriented three-year interlude. Percussionist Max Werner was the lead singer on the first five albums but, tired of his own voice, he gave up singing in 1978 to devote himself solely to drums and percussion on the following four albums, and was replaced as lead singer by Edward Reekers from 1978.
